BAYT Interviews Ep. 1: Sara Alduais
Welcome to Bring Arab Youth Together’s first interview! Today we are interviewing Sara Alduais, a Yemeni-American who has self-published 3 books (Waiting for You, This is My Hijab, This is Our Home).
Q: What is an important value or belief you have that stems from your ethnicity?
A: An important belief I have from my Yemeni ethnicity is to exude hospitality no matter who or what the situation may be. My grandparents were known to welcome everyone to their homes and give them the feeling of comfort and warmth. I want to relay that value in every aspect of my life. For example, I want to express those emotions through my books, each sentence being a feeling of home.
Q: What keeps you motivated during difficult times?
A: My motivation during hard times is my faith. I trust in God’s plan and allow myself to be guided by Him with unrelenting trust.
Q: What character attribute has helped in your success?
A: My personal character attribute that’s helped my success would definitely be my lack of fear to take risks. Lots of times in my life I find myself jumping into situations I know if I think a second longer about, I will miss the opportunity. So, thankfully, I try to take every chance at success I get. This comes to mind with self-publishing. It was scary to step away from the comfortable and traditional route of being published by a company and having an agent. But alhamdillah I’ve realized more and more that this enables my free choices and opinions. I’m not censored or held back from anything I want to do or say. Truly a blessing!
Q: Fattoush or tabouli?
A: Tabouli! Always and forever.
